5,200 m base
The north side of Everest — monastery, flag-squares and the Rongbuk glacier with the peak behind them.
The Rongbuk Monastery at 5,000 m is one of the highest monasteries anywhere, and the valley behind it gives the classic north-face view of Everest, with the Rongbuk glacier below the summit pyramid.
An early start for the 10 km transfer to the tent camp viewpoint, then the monastic terrace and the road back down the Himalayan crest to Tingri, with Shishapangma all the way.
